China to Vet All Online Content, Service and Equipment Providers

The Chinese government is planning a nationwide probe of all
internet services, software, and hardware that might be
considered a threat to national security, according to draft
plans published this week.

But online freedom of speech activists said the aim of the review
is likely to further strengthen the ruling Chinese Communist
Party's control over what citizens can see online ahead of a
top-level meeting later in the year.

According to draft plans issued on Feb. 4 for public consultation
by the China National Internet Information Office and other
government agencies, the review will look at security
vulnerabilities that could allow "illegal control, interference,
and interruption" of online products and services.

It will also seek to identify risks at the R&D stage, the
delivery stage,and in technical support services.

But the mandate for the plan also covers any other risks "that
could endanger national security or the public interest," the
draft plans said.

The government will focus on "important online products and
services ... and their providers," requiring companies to show
their "commitment" to national security and carrying out
government supervision including lab tests, inspections, online
monitoring, and vetting procedures, according to the plans.

The Chinese Communist Party and all government departments will
then be required to drop any suppliers of internet-related
products and services that fail the review process, the plans
said.

This could mean that products and services sourced overseas will
be required to undergo extensive inspections and vetting
procedures, or face being dropped, media reports indicated.

European Space Agency to Help NASA Take Humans Beyond Moon

BERLIN - The European Space Agency says it will contribute key
components for a future NASA mission to take humans around the
moon within the next few years.

Astronauts haven't gone beyond a low orbit around Earth since
1972, when NASA ended its Apollo program.

The European Space Agency and aerospace company Airbus have
already delivered a propulsion and supply module for an unmanned
flight of NASA's new Orion spacecraft next year.

The agency said Wednesday that it and Airbus have now agreed with
NASA to build a module for a second, manned mission that will fly
around the moon as early as 2021.

Orion is eventually intended to expand human exploration to
deep-space destinations such as Mars or asteroids.

Receive pictures from space – ISS SSTV
February 7, 2017

Slow-scan television (SSTV) transmissions are planned from the
International Space Station (ISS) on February 13-14, 2017

The SSTV images will be transmitted as part of the MAI-75
Experiment on 145.800 MHz FM using the Kenwood TM-D710
transceiver located in the Russian ISS Service module. It is
thought they may use the PD-180 SSTV format.

The MAI-75 activities have been scheduled for the Russian crew on
Monday, February 13 from 09:25-18:00 GMT and Tuesday, February 14
from 11:25-16:30 GMT.

Note the ISS transmissions on 145.800 MHz FM use the 5 kHz
deviation standard rather than the narrow 2.5 kHz used in Europe.
If your transceiver has selectable FM filters try the wider
filter.
